I think the push for Canadians to eat more vegetables (who currently aren't) and higher fiber foods is good. We have been eating Canadian produced lentils as half of our grown beef in chili and shepherds pies for a year now and love it and still get the beefy taste we love.

I'm pretty sure that the many Canadians who have been suffering illnesses, food sensitivities, allergies and autoimmune issues due to simple carb laden diets (based on our previous "guide") have learned to ignore the Canadian bread, I mean food, guide for a long while now.
